Camaro Rear End Noise
Tell them you had a pinion seal replaced by this other guy, now you have a rear end noise and you think he overtightened the pinion nut and ruined the pinion bearings. The heart of the strange camaro rearend is the dana 60 gearset, which is available in 3.54, 3.73, 4.10, 4.30, and 4.56 ratios.
There have been a number of people with the clicking noise the 'tink' coming from the rear wheels.

Only 2 things could cause the rear end to whine. Spent over $1000.00 at the first shop & they could not get rid of the noise. It makes a howling noise all the time.

There are 2 types of rear end noise that are well known with this car. It is a stock 10 bolt 3.23 gear. My noise is completely gone.
Have not returned to dealer yet. There's a tsb on this one where the diff fluid needs to be changed and make sure you add the friction modifier and usually good to go. In 1970 the rear end was built in both 10 and 12 bolt versions.
It continued to get worse. The proper way to do a pinion seal is to mark (with a chisel or scribe) a line on the nut and the pinion. Yes i let them do it so i wouldn't hear any crying if there was engine failure the paper trail led back to them.
Rear end howl on deceleration. Do you have instructions to rebuild this unit or any other information/guess on the noise? I have a 2000, ss camaro with 76k miles with a roar from the rear end.
1990 camaro iroc z clunking noise comeing from borg warner rear. He took it to the dealer, and they said that the bearings were pitted, and rebuilt the posi. Then when you put it back together you line up the marks or go slightly tighter and you know its back.
I replaced the shocks and the nosie was still there. That described the issue exactly. They assured me a call back after 2 days but, nothing.
Zl1 camaro rear differential bushing busted. I have no heat build up at the axle ends after driving so i suspect a bearing in the differential. I have a 17 2ss.
The ring and pinion was setup incorrectly in the previous car and has worn that way. After 8 hours all i was told was that it was the rear differential and the oil change was done. At low speeds car has a clunking sound that comes from rear end.
Dealer states that the fuid needed to be changed. The fluid was changed and the car still makes this noise. Check your tranny mount sometimes the rubber part cracks and makes a clunking sound, also check your universal joints on the driveshaft if they are bad they will clunk,.
In 1971, gm instituted a standardized corporate rear axle. This rear end was available in a 10 bolt version only. Bought a new 16' 2ss when i leave in the morning and make a turn while steeping slightly on the gas a rubbing sound is in the rear.
The 1970 12 bolt version will bolt into any second generation camaro and quite. I took it to the dealer and tech guy told me that it's normal and he called gm and. Masa, from canada, says it is unlike anything he has ever experienced before.
Took to chevy land dealership ,we are. The sound usually is not noticeable after the vehicle has warmed up. I have this whining noise coming from what i think is the rear end.
Kinda like a brake rubbing noise. You can feel it in the floor.
